Thai massage is a style of massage that was developed in Thailand and combines massage with assisted stretching. It is performed on a mat on the floor, and the client wears loose, comfortable clothing. Typically no oils or lotions are used during the massage, and a session lasts for 90 minutes.
Thai massage incorporates elements of deep pressure, assisted stretching, passive range of motion, energy balancing, compression and percussion to stretch and relax the muscles. The practitioner will often apply pressure following energetic pathways in the body. Assisted yoga postures are used, with the practitioner assisting the posture to guide the body to move in ways that may be difficult to attain through a normal yoga class.
Thai massage is especially good for increasing circulation and range of motion, as well as decreasing stress and pain within the body.
