Kundalini yoga is a style of yoga very different from our other classes. It tends to have a more spiritual focus, with a particular emphasis on breath work. The class often includes some basic warm-ups, repetitive movements with accompanying conscious breath work (called "kriyas"), some amount of meditation, and the Sunday class also includes chanting (mantras) and energetic gong.
The intention of a Kundalini yoga practice is to increase the vibration in the body, or to move the Kundalini energy (also called chi) up through the chakras. Many people experience Kundalini yoga as energizing and joyful, while some also find that it raises awareness of other emotions.
